Tiger continues streak
3 PGA tournaments in a row. Can this guy be stopped? Bart Bryant just laughed as he heard the roar on 18 as Tiger knocked down a 25 foot birdie putt to win the Arnold Palmer.

Tiger Woods 2, field 0, this time from 4 back. Ernie Els 3 year plan to overtake Tiger hit a snag. Dubai belongs to Tiger once again and he is loving it. Can you imagine what this year may look like? I know he will take a loss this year but I can definately see him going .500 on the year and winning 10 tournaments. Hey Ian Poulter…next time you speak before you think put a sock in your mouth. 76 on Sunday ain’t gettin er dun, Tiger shot 65 dude!

I think the Buick Invitational needs to change it’s name to Tiger tune-up challenge. He easily blew away the field by 8 shots over Imada from Japan. No sunday drama here just one opened can of whoopass. I have to admit I am a fan and love when he destroys the field. Here’s hoping for the Grand Slam…go Tiger!

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson renew their rivalry today at the Buick Open. Teeing it up for the first time in 2008 both expect big years. Tiger has even made the comment that the Grand Slam is within reach this year….I don’t know about that but I never count him out of it either.

Nike took a credibility hit on the golf equipment scene recently. In the latest comparison tests by golfs biggest magazines, Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, not one Nike ball made best of the best. Nike Platimum was the closest scoring as a distant second tier in both comparisons. This is a big blow to Nike who is doing its best to unseat the current golf ball leader Titleist. Thankfully they recieved better reviews on the Sumo and Sumo2 driver which ranks highly in both magazines. Maybe they are catering to Tiger a little two much in terms of what he likes in a golf ball. The masses are what drives golf equipment sales so build us a ball that works and doesn’t need a gimicky sales pitch to win us over (aka Nike Ignite). Ahhhh but that is the best thing Nike does, marketing!

Choi went wire to wire with a victory in Hawaii this past weekend. Showing 2007 was no fluke he took down Rory Sabatinni and company by shooting 13 under par. Many are predicting him as a favorite to win the Masters this year in April. Nike made a good move in picking him up in sponsorship and if he continues to play well this year will start making the big bucks along side of Tiger.

Tiger Woods won his own tournament again by 7 strokes. He pulled away from Jim Furyk on the back nine. All winnings were given to his foundation for charity. Annika Sorenstam gets first win in 2007. She won on a European tour event against an easier field but she was happy none the less. Callaway wins a patent suit over Titleist and its Pro V1. They plan to have Titleist make adjustments to its golf balls immediately along with handing over cash for damages.

Lorena Ochoa clinched another player of the year yesterday with a convincing victory at the Samsung World Championship. That makes two in a row and probably the next five. Ochoa has become the player to beat on the LPGA taking over for Annika. She had another break through season as she finally captured a major and won 7 times this year. I don’t see why she can’t win 10 next year with at least a couple majors as she seems to be in contention in just about every tournament she plays. Forget Michelle Wie this is the next great player. Even though small in stature she is long off the tee, hits fantastic irons and wedges. The only weakness I see is her putting which this year seems to be getting better. Even though the womens game has its best players ever in my opinion she still seems to take out the best consistently. Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Suzann Petterson, Christie Kerr, Mi Hyun Kim, none have the staying power of Lorena. I believe she will go on a Tiger Woods like run with majors over the next ten years only giving a few away to her compadres so they don’t feel dejected and quit the tour!

Once again the Americans dominated the President’s Cup even without the help of Tiger Woods on sunday. For some reason they just rise to the occasion in this event and not in the Ryder Cup. It does not make much sense why except that Europeans play better as a team then the Internationals. The Internationals did however win the singles competition for the first time which is something they can surely build on. It did not seem the matches were as passionate though knowing that the Americans only needed 3 wins to clinch. Never the less it seems to be a fun competition that everyone likes to play in since they play team ball just once a year.

Was there any doubt? Tiger wins the inaugural PGA Tour playoffs. Not only does he win, he lets everyone know who reigns in the golf world. His utter domination was reflected in the fact that Sunday was just an afterthought. You could see the dejection in Mark Calcavechia as he tried hard to make a run but could not pressure Tiger. The rest of the field was playing for second as they could not handle the pin placements while Tiger looked like light it up through Saturday though. Zach Johnson put on a show almost netting a 59 Saturday, Sergio showed he can be a contender. Steve Stricker’s rebirth culminated to a second place and showed he has the game to challenge just about everyone. I look forward to seeing how they will tweak the system as Tiger didn’t need to show up in Atlanta to win the cup and I believe the Fedex Cup was a success.
